Empowering Tribal Lives. Enabling Self-Reliance.
The Transformative Journey of Birsa Munda Adivasi Jankalyan Sanstha (BMAJS)

In the heart of Maharashtra, where the red soil meets the dense green of tribal villages, a quiet revolution has been taking place. For over a decade, Birsa Munda Adivasi Jankalyan Sanstha (BMAJS) has been working tirelessly to bring the most marginalized voices into the mainstream — not through handouts, but through empowerment and self-reliance.

The Legacy: Inspired by Birsa Munda, Led by Purpose
Founded in 2009 and rooted in the ideals of freedom fighter Birsa Munda, the Sanstha began with a clear vision:

“Every tribal household should have the power to live with dignity, skill, and opportunity.”

From a handful of volunteers in a single village, BMAJS has grown into a vibrant movement that now reaches over 120 villages, impacting 15,000+ lives across Nagpur District.

 Building Skills, Not Dependency
BMAJS firmly believes that sustainable change comes from within. That’s why our work centers on livelihood enhancement through:

Vocational Training Programs for youth and women

Bamboo Product Manufacturing Units

Agarbatti and Sanitizer Workshops

Traditional Warli and Gondi Art Skill Development

Organic Farming and Dairy Projects

We’ve seen women go from earning ₹30/month to ₹40,000/month through craft and micro-enterprise. That’s not just income — that’s dignity restored.

👩‍🎓

 Educate. Empower. Encourage.
Education is where transformation begins. Through our “Mission Shiksha” initiative, we’ve:

Distributed educational kits in 6+ schools

Conducted summer camps, career counseling, English coaching

Helped reduce dropout rates, especially among tribal girls

Supported adult education and life skills programs

Because when a child learns, a village grows.

 Health is Power
Through our Eye Checkup Campaign, we’ve reached over 5,000 rural people with free screenings, treatments, and awareness. Our programs also promote menstrual hygiene, reproductive health, and first-aid training — especially for adolescent girls and tribal women.

 Livelihood + Environment = Long-Term Impact
BMAJS understands that environment and economy must go hand-in-hand. Our Tree Plantation Campaign has planted over 20,000 trees across 40 villages — all maintained by community volunteers.

Meanwhile, our Bamboo-based livelihood model is helping save forests while generating income for hundreds of families.

 Culture, Identity, and Pride
By reviving tribal art forms like Warli and Gondi, we’re not just generating income — we’re preserving identity. These art forms are now being sold as:

Painted jackets & aprons

Jute bags & handmade files

Home décor & utility products

Women artisans are now entrepreneurs, not just beneficiaries.

Final Words: More Than an NGO — A People’s Movement
“Empowering Tribal Lives. Enabling Self-Reliance.” is more than our slogan — it’s our commitment to creating agents of change from within the community.

At BMAJS, we don’t just provide help. We build systems where tribal youth, women, and families can help themselves — for this generation and the next.
